Founded in 2018, Exploring Race is an digital publication run by students of color at the University of Chicago. We publish personal, academic, and creative work by students at UChicago that deals with issues of race, culture, and ethnicity. 

 

We want to uplift the voices of students of color at UChicago. By publishing their stories, we hope to bring greater transparency to these experiences. Presenting these stories as a collection highlights their commonalities- and shows that they can be the result of racist, institutionalized University practices. 

 

We want to create a framework for open communication that allows for the participation of white students and allows for a critical analysis of whiteness based on current literature and research on critical race theory.

 

We firmly believe that identity is not a prop for politics — meaning that students from all backgrounds must engage in this type of dialogue. This widespread discourse is what we hope to facilitate.
